UN Security Council: DRC advocates for responsible governance of natural resources for peace

DRC's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, chaired an informal UN Security Council meeting on July 13, 2026 in New York, focused on assessing the normative deficit regarding natural resources and peace. She called on the international community to move beyond conflict management and promote responsible governance of natural resources as a prevention tool, respecting state sovereignty. UN Special Envoy for the Great Lakes, Huang Xia, also addressed the meeting.
