UN Under-Secretary-General Calls for Greater African Role in Global Decision-Making

Ahunna Eziakonwa, UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-General, urged African leaders to seek greater representation in global decision-making and hold international partners accountable for their commitments. Speaking at a leadership meeting in Nairobi on October 15, she said trust in international institutions could not be restored while Africa had little influence over decisions affecting its economies, development priorities and international relations. She also called for measurable improvements in education, agriculture and public services. These issues will be discussed at the Trust Summit: Nairobi Dialogues on Global Trust, scheduled for October 21–23, which is expected to produce an action framework and mechanisms to track commitments.
