With only 53 psychiatrists for 50 million people, Uganda faces a mental health crisis. In May 2022, the Health Ministry revealed that 14 million people suffered from mental illnesses, representing 32% of the population. Violent acts, such as a mother killing two of her daughters in Kampala, highlight the troubling acceptance of mental illness in Ugandan society.
