Understanding autism and its diagnosis in Africa

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting communication and social interaction. In Africa, awareness of autism has increased, but understanding varies by region. Cultural beliefs and a shortage of trained professionals complicate diagnosis, which often relies on behavioral observation and developmental history. Efforts are underway to improve clinician training and public awareness through organizations such as the Association for Behavior Analysis in Nigeria.
