Unions question doctor workforce planning as Health Department lacks unemployment register

Unions are concerned about the lack of a national register tracking unemployed doctors after community service, complicating government staffing plans. The Health Department admitted it does not keep a record of unemployed doctors, despite 1,891 completing community service by the end of 2025. Provincial health departments had 1,518 vacant medical posts nationally at the end of March 2026.
