United States: Was Modou Ngom sentenced to death after a crash that killed three people? What the courts say

A Facebook post claimed that Modou Ngom, a 50-year-old Senegalese truck driver, had been sentenced to death in the United States after a fatal crash in Ohio. Court records and statements by authorities show that he was found guilty on eight counts, but as of October 28, 2026, he had not yet been sentenced. On April 11, his semi-truck struck vehicles stopped on Interstate 71 in Delaware County, killing Luke Soposki, his wife Lynnea, and their one-year-old son Logan. Three other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Shinkafi asks INEC to withdraw Ya’u’s name as APC senatorial candidate in Zamfara

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u from the APC candidate list for Zamfara North Senatorial District. On October 20, the Court of Appeal in Sokoto dismissed Ya’u’s appeal and upheld the Federal High Court in Gusau’s decision nullifying the disputed primary and ordering a fresh one. In a letter dated October 27, Shinkafi’s lawyer urged INEC to withdraw Ya’u’s name until a new primary is held or the Supreme Court gives a final ruling. Shinkafi said keeping the candidacy in place could prevent the APC from fielding a candidate and jeopardise its participation in the 2027 general elections.
