Unnatural acts: Famous actor Osman Diop speaks out and denies everything

Senegalese actor Osman Diop denied any involvement in an investigation into unnatural acts and the intentional transmission of HIV after social media users confused him with another artist identified as “O. Diop.” He says he has never appeared in the TV series Jeux de Dames, is not 42 years old, does not have two children, and is in good health. Mamadou Ba and the other suspects have been remanded in custody and charged with criminal conspiracy, unnatural acts, and intentional HIV transmission; the investigation is ongoing, and they are presumed innocent.

Kenyan preacher sentenced to 200 years in prison over murders of 191 people

Self-proclaimed preacher Paul Mackenzie was sentenced Friday to 200 years in prison for the murder of 191 people, including 190 children, in the Shakahola Forest cult near Malindi. The court imposed 100 years for homicide and 100 years for charges related to the starvation of followers, whom he allegedly urged to fast to “meet Jesus”; his 28 co-accused also received lengthy sentences. The judge described the suffering endured by children, while Francis Wanje, who lost two grandchildren, blamed authorities for failing to act sooner. Mackenzie plans to appeal and faces other trials; the case, which Kenya’s human rights commission says killed 429 people, has renewed calls for tighter regulation of religious organisations.

"Don't forget to buy the…": C.T. Sonko and M. Fall remanded in custody on charges of criminal conspiracy and unnatural acts

C. T. Sonko, a 27-year-old restaurateur from Zac-Mbao, and M. Fall, a 22-year-old tailor from Médina-Gounass, have been remanded in custody after an altercation in Sam-Notaire, where they had arranged to meet through Snapchat on November 2. A. L. Mbaye, a local shopkeeper, says Fall told him that Sonko was pursuing a romantic relationship and sexual relations with him, and Mbaye then took both men to the Guédiawaye central police station. Mbaye says he found an envelope containing 14 condoms, pills and lubricant in Sonko’s bag. Sonko acknowledges the case concerns an accusation of homosexuality but denies engaging in such acts; both men are due before the Pikine-Guédiawaye flagrante delicto court on Monday.
