Unsold tea at Mombasa auction hits yearly high as levy bites

The regional Mombasa auction recorded its highest unsold tea volume this year, with 27% of the 12.52 million kg offered remaining unsold. This is attributed to a new 0.8% export levy and logistics disruptions from the Middle East crisis. EATTA Managing Director George Omuga stated these factors have increased costs and reduced Kenyan tea's competitiveness.
