US firm Ormat flags Kenya Power payment delays

US energy firm Ormat Technologies has flagged payment delays from Kenya Power, despite receiving $21.1 million in January and February 2026 for overdue obligations. Kenya Power currently owes Ormat $8.4 million, with a total of $29.5 million due for electricity supplied in 2025. Payment delays have been exacerbated by a dollar crunch in 2023, impacting payments to independent power producers.
