US judge postpones new visa rules for foreign students, journalists

A US federal judge postponed the implementation of a Trump administration policy that would impose stricter limits on how long foreign students and journalists can stay in the United States. Judge Dennis Saylor issued a preliminary injunction against the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rules one day before they were set to take effect, expressing skepticism about their necessity. The proposed rules would have limited foreign students to a maximum of four years and foreign journalists to 240 days, with possible extensions, whereas they could previously stay for up to five years.
