US sanctions M23, FDLR Commanders over Eastern Congo conflict

The US government has imposed sanctions on Gustave Kubwayo, an FDLR commander, and John Imani Nzenze, M23 intelligence chief, for fueling violence in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The US Treasury froze their assets and prohibited transactions with them. The actions support the Washington Accords and Doha Framework, requiring the DRC to neutralize the FDLR and Rwanda to end support for M23.
