US says Strait of Hormuz remains open to traffic

The United States stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to traffic, claiming to have established safe navigation corridors for commercial vessels that do not violate sanctions against Iran. The US also said Iran no longer controls the strait, despite Tehran ordering its closure Thursday. Five ships crossed the strait between Wednesday and Thursday, including four small coastal cargo vessels leaving the Persian Gulf and one general cargo vessel entering. President Donald Trump announced the signing of an agreement with Iran this weekend.
