Mbappé controversy: Javier Tebas plans to travel to China to try to calm the dispute

La Liga president Javier Tebas said in Barcelona on November 2, 2026, that he was considering travelling to China to ease the crisis sparked by Kylian Mbappé’s remarks about Mao Zedong. Chinese state television suspended its free broadcasts of two matches per matchday, Migu did not show Real Madrid’s latest game, and La Liga was excluded from a trade fair in Shanghai. Mbappé also lost three Chinese commercial partners: Dongpeng, Mengniu and Milkground. Although La Liga, Mbappé and Real Madrid have apologized, broadcasts have not resumed; Tebas says he remains in contact with Chinese representatives but has no timeline for a resolution.

The Philippines, which gets more than 90 percent of its crude oil imports from the Gulf, is among the countries especially exposed.

Hormuz: Iran claims to have captured two US drones and shot down an MQ-9

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim they shot down an MQ-9 east of the Strait of Hormuz and captured two MQM-170 drones south of Qeshm Island on November 2, 2026. Washington has not confirmed the reported losses. Tehran says it now holds four MQM-170s and describes the MQ-9 as the 55th of its type destroyed by its forces. CENTCOM previously disputed Iran’s claim that it captured an MQM-170 on October 29; that capture has not been independently verified.
