How Kenya Landed the +254 Country Calling Code

Kenya uses the international calling code +254, assigned by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as part of the global telephone numbering system rather than chosen by the country after independence. Kenyan domestic phone numbers begin with 0, indicating that a call is intended for a local number. Calls to other countries require the destination’s country code; otherwise, a matching number could connect to a Kenyan subscriber instead of the person abroad.
