Iran reveals ‘offensive’ doctrine, US issues alert: Is war imminent?

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says the country is adopting an “offensive and asymmetrical” defence doctrine, under which Tehran would retaliate and launch an offensive if attacked, potentially targeting neighbouring countries and bases used by US forces. Spokesman Hossein Mohebi said Iran’s missile stockpile had grown 1.5 times since the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025, and that missile range, destructive power and accuracy had improved. The announcement comes as attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz escalate and negotiations to end the nearly eight-month war appear stalled. Washington has ordered some diplomatic personnel to leave Saudi Arabia, while media reports say the US and Israel are planning possible attacks on Iran in the coming weeks.
