Nigerian Air Force Lowers Water Level at Igbokoda Crash Site

On the 14th day of recovery operations in Igbokoda, Ondo State, the Nigerian Air Force said pumping had substantially lowered the water level around the crashed ATR 42-500, NAF 931. Teams are continuing to remove water and reinforcing the embankment with sandbags to prevent it from collapsing. Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke praised the recovery personnel and reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to completing the operation safely as the investigation into the crash continues.

65-year-old swimmer dies after shark attack in South Africa

Janine Lochrenberg, a 65-year-old former nuclear radiographer, died Tuesday after a shark attacked her while she was swimming with a group at Orient Beach in KuGompo, South Africa. Mike Loewe, who was in the water with her, heard her cry; two swimmers and Loewe’s son brought her ashore, where attempts to revive her were made despite severe injuries to her arm and thigh. Police, called to the scene at about 7 a.m., found that she had died, and swimmers reported seeing a shark’s tail and fin. Several nearby beaches were closed and the public was urged to stay out of the water.
