Vodacom to Keep 55% Safaricom Stake as Court Hears Appeal

South Africa’s Vodacom Group says it will retain its controlling 55% stake in Safaricom. The statement comes as an appeal proceeds against a High Court judgment. That judgment nullified Vodacom’s acquisition of an additional 20% stake in the Kenyan telecommunications company.

National Assembly adopts four bills for more than $600 million in development projects

The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s National Assembly adopted four bills on October 19 covering more than $625 million in financing agreements with the International Development Association, part of the World Bank Group. The funding includes $200 million to support women entrepreneurs and small businesses, $200 million for education, $75 million for nutrition and health, and $150 million for emergency preparedness and inclusive recovery. The Senate has already approved the bills, but the two chambers must harmonize their differing versions before final adoption.

Ruto Announces Milk Farmers Will Be Paid Ksh65 per Litre Starting This Month

President William Ruto announced that dairy farmers will receive Ksh65 per litre from October, along with a quarterly bonus of Ksh2 per litre. He made the announcement at the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret on October 20. Ruto said the price paid to producers had risen from Ksh35 to Ksh60 per litre and that national milk production had increased by one billion litres. He also pointed to New Kenya Cooperative Creameries’ role in collecting and processing milk in Eldoret.
