AfCFTA: Cameroonian companies trapped by their production costs

At the opening of the 12th Cameroon Business Forum in Douala on October 22, 2026, Gecam president Célestin Tawamba urged the government to ease constraints that hinder Cameroonian production and exports under the AfCFTA. He cited deteriorating roads, power cuts, limited access to credit and delayed state payments. Journeys from Douala to Yaoundé now take six to eight hours, while reaching Bafoussam takes eight to ten hours, increasing delivery times and logistics costs. Chaired by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the forum’s session is the first plenary meeting since October 2020 and focuses on reforms to improve business competitiveness.
