Walikale: New clashes erupt in Kibati between the army and the FRN

New clashes broke out around 5 a.m. on Friday, October 16, in Kibati, in the Luberike groupement of Walikale territory, North Kivu. The Congolese armed forces (FARDC), backed by wazalendo fighters, launched an offensive against positions held by the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), which has occupied the town for more than two years. The operation reportedly aims to regain control of the strategic settlement, where fighting has repeatedly occurred. Tensions and fighter movements in Walikale and Masisi territories are raising concerns that hostilities could spread and further affect local communities.
