Walikale: Several Villages in Waloa Loanda Empty After Fighting Between the Army and AFC/M23 in Neighboring Masisi and Kalehe Areas

Since August 29, 2026, several villages in the Waloa Loanda group, including Biriko, Kifuruka, Lulambo, and Busurungi, have emptied as residents flee fighting between AFC/M23 rebels and the FARDC. Families are arriving in Hombo, where they are hosted under difficult conditions. The displaced individuals express concerns about their humanitarian situation, particularly the lack of food and shelter, and are calling on humanitarian organizations for emergency assistance.
