Washington/Doha: MONUSCO encourages parties to continue efforts to translate commitments into tangible progress

Following the occupation of Goma and Bukavu by the M23 rebellion backed by Rwanda, the Washington and Doha peace processes, led by the US and Qatar respectively, raised hopes for stability in eastern DRC. However, over a year later, tangible progress on the ground remains limited, raising concerns among Congolese partners. UN Special Representative James Swan urged all parties to honor their commitments during a UN Security Council briefing, emphasizing MONUSCO's ongoing support and the African Union's efforts, including a roadmap developed in Gaborone in July to guide six months of coordinated action.
