Water shortages in several Kinshasa communes: REGIDESO cites rain and breakdowns

Drinking-water supplies are disrupted in Mont-Ngafula, Ngaliema, Masina and other Kinshasa neighborhoods, where residents report outages lasting as long as several weeks. René Descartes Toko, REGIDESO's distribution director for western Kinshasa, says heavy rains carry sand, mud and waste into water sources, slowing treatment and reservoir replenishment. Electrical and pumping-system breakdowns have also reduced production capacity. REGIDESO says repairs are underway and urges customers to pay their bills to fund maintenance and increase production.

"I am a member of a revival church": Anne Féconde Noah embraces her faith and denounces persecution of that faith in Cameroon

On Times TV’s Audience privée, Anne Féconde Noah, vice-president of the PCRN, said she belongs to a revival church and has attended church since birth, 42 years ago. She defended everyone’s freedom to practise their faith and challenged criticism of revival churches over noise, noting that bars and some traditional ceremonies can also disturb people. Her remarks follow Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji’s announcement in July 2026 that 1,400 churches considered illegal would soon be closed in Cameroon. Noah had previously denounced what she sees as persecution of these religious communities and urged authorities to scrutinize noisy establishments as well.

‘Another meeting will not fix the pipe’: SAHRC lays bare Gauteng’s water crisis

In a report released on Monday, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) identified systemic failures in Gauteng’s water and sanitation services, including ageing infrastructure, poor maintenance, electricity interruptions, failing wastewater treatment, pollution and municipal distribution problems. It warned that meetings and task teams are not enough, and that interventions should be judged by measurable improvements in service performance. The inquiry was held in Johannesburg from May 19 to 21 after numerous complaints; eight of the province’s nine municipalities appeared. The Commission said water being available at source does not ensure residents receive a safe, sufficient and reliable supply, as tankers become a permanent solution in some communities.

DRC-Uganda: Tensions between residents near the Sarambwe Reserve and Bwindi Park

Tensions are persisting between communities near the Sarambwe Nature Reserve in Rutshuru, North Kivu, and residents around Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Muhindo Kibunga Elias, an environmental activist in Rutshuru, said several Sarambwe community trackers were violently attacked on Monday by suspected Ugandan park rangers. The dispute dates back to April, when Congolese trackers seized about 30 goats believed to belong to Ugandan herders and took them to a reserve monitoring post. The owners have yet to receive clear information about the animals, and the activist fears the tensions could worsen.
