‘We were lucky to win everything’ – Messi reflects on his years at Barcelona

Back in Spain to receive the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports in Oviedo, Lionel Messi reflected on his years at Barcelona. He called it a privilege to share a dressing room with Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Carles Puyol, recalling the titles they won and the enjoyment of training and everyday life together. Messi said he retains a special affection for both the city and the club. The first individual footballer to receive the honour, he was recognised for his career, humility, team spirit and charitable work supporting education and healthcare for disadvantaged children.
