What a Trump-Xi-Putin summit could mean – and what it wouldn’t

Donald Trump, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin could meet on the sidelines of the APEC summit scheduled for November 18–19 in Shenzhen. China and Russia say discussions are under way to arrange the meeting, while Trump has said he is open to three-way talks on nuclear weapons. The leaders have met separately but have never held formal talks together. Analyst Alexander Bratersky says Moscow could gain valuable visibility, portray Putin as a leading decision-maker and push Ukraine to the sidelines.
