At least 68 people were killed and about 80 injured when a Renfe high-speed train struck the rear of a stationary Iryo train near Urda in central Spain shortly before 9am on Wednesday. Both trains were travelling from Madrid to Seville; two Iryo carriages derailed and fell down an embankment. Authorities have blamed an “inexplicable” order from a rail control centre following a signalling failure. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the site and declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday.
