Since the beginning of 2026, at least 11 bird strikes have been recorded by Nigerian airlines, leading to operational disruptions and financial losses. Air Peace and United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) are the worst hit, with multiple incidents on various routes including Abuja, Lagos, Owerri, Asaba, Kano, and Warri. The latest incident involved an Air Peace aircraft flying from Lagos to Warri on June 5, 2026. These strikes have caused delays, cancellations, and aircraft damage, including to landing gear.
