When floodwaters recede, health crisis begins – Physicians warn

The recent floods in Lagos and parts of Nigeria caused destruction and displacement, but according to Dr. Adedayo Aderibigbe, a consultant public health physician at LASUTH, the real health crisis begins after the waters recede. Contaminated water, blocked drainage, and human activities (indiscriminate dumping, building on natural waterways) create conditions for outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, and malaria. He urges governments to strengthen surveillance and stockpile medicines before deaths rise.
