Why are migrants risking their lives at sea to reach Yemen?

Migrants cross the dangerous Bab al-Mandeb Strait to reach Yemen and, in some cases, the Gulf, in search of work. Not all are fleeing fighting in Yemen; some are travelling there despite the risks of the sea crossing. Al Jazeera’s Al Anoud Al Aqeedi explains why migrants make the journey.

Two Syrian pipelines damaged amid spate of attacks on energy infrastructure

Two Syrian pipelines were damaged in separate incidents, according to the Syrian Petroleum Company, as reported by SANA. An explosion targeted the Jbessa gas pipeline in Hasakah province, while a fuel leak was found on the Baniyas-to-Homs pipeline near Hadida. Crews isolated the damaged section and began repairs; state media said the leak was believed to be connected to an attempted fuel theft. The company said gas would continue reaching power stations through alternative arrangements and domestic supplies were unaffected.

Dubai: Influencer Tarasbody Could Face Prison, Appeals for Help

Tara McCloud, a Franco-American fitness coach, model and influencer known as Tarasbody on Instagram, said in a video posted on October 15, 2026, that she cannot leave the United Arab Emirates. She says she was stopped upon arriving at the airport over allegations involving serious road accidents in 2025, which she disputes. Investigators reportedly found a passport and driving licence in her name that she says she never had; to avoid immediate detention, she presented proof that she had left the UAE in April 2024. The French consulate reportedly told her it could not intervene in a local court case, which is ongoing.
