Why cooking gas will remain scarce, expensive - Vanguard News

Despite holding Africa's largest proven gas reserves and rising production, Nigeria faces a shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). Data shows 62% of gas output in early 2026 was exported, leaving only 38% for domestic use. Demand rose 20% to 1.8 million metric tonnes in 2026, while supply is only 1.55-1.65 million tonnes, causing a shortfall. Producers focus on exports due to poor incentives for domestic supply, keeping prices high and supply uncertain.
