Why crashes keep happening on Otedola Bridge — Lagos government

The Lagos State Government says Otedola Bridge has no structural or engineering defects, based on joint inspections with the Federal Ministry of Works. Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi attributes recurring crashes to reckless and undisciplined driving, as well as poorly maintained or overloaded trucks. He announced plans to install weighbridges to check truck weights and urged drivers to slow down in construction zones, including the ongoing coastal road project. LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said more than 60 per cent of cargo transported in Nigeria originates from or passes through Lagos, adding to pressure from heavy trucks on the roads.
