Why has the response to Nepal’s floods been so muted?

Three weeks after the collapse of a glacier in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli valleys, Nepal has recorded over 1,380 deaths and around 5,100 missing. The Nepali government estimates that reconstruction will require $4.7 billion, about 10% of the country's annual GDP. Despite media attention, the international response has been limited, with humanitarian aid pledges that are insufficient to meet the needs of affected communities.
