Wike, Rivers lawmakers and local officials meet Fubara

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Speaker Martin Amaewhule, the state’s 23 local government chairmen and Rainbow Coalition members to a closed-door meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Port Harcourt on Sunday evening. Although the agenda was not disclosed, the meeting was part of reconciliation efforts between the Wike and Fubara camps, aimed at moving past the state’s political crisis and accommodating the governor’s supporters in the 2027 political landscape. Lawmakers who had twice attempted to impeach Fubara greeted him and shook his hand after the meeting. Wike has previously ruled out a second term for Fubara and given the party ticket to Kingsley Chinda.
