With its price cuts, Dangote shakes up the Nigerian fuel market

Dangote refinery announced a wholesale price reduction for gasoline in Nigeria, from 1,250 to 1,175 naira per liter effective June 16, 2026. The cut follows easing tensions in the Middle East. Dangote, already exporting to several African markets, increases pressure on fuel importers.

Court rejects bid to use old rows to stop sale of EABL stake

The High Court dismissed a third legal suit seeking to block Diageo's sale of its entire 65% stake in EABL to Asahi Group Holdings. The court found no sufficient link between the contractor JILK Construction's long-running commercial disputes and the share sale. The Sh300 billion deal is expected to net the Kenyan Treasury Sh42 billion in capital gains tax. The transaction now awaits merger clearance from the Competition Authority of Kenya.

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, linked the world energy crisis to the conflict involving the United States, Iran, and Israel. He stated that the Dangote Refinery prevented Nigeria's economy from sliding into crisis by stabilizing fuel prices and providing a strategic advantage. The refinery increased its production capacity to 700,000 barrels per day and now exports to several African and European countries, as well as the United States and Saudi Arabia. Oba Akanbi commended President Tinubu's support and called for greater recognition of Aliko Dangote in Nigeria.
