World Athletics to Launch Standalone Marathon Championships from 2030

World Athletics announced that marathons will be removed from the World Championships after 2030, with the establishment of standalone World Marathon Championships. Marathons will still be part of the World Championships in 2027 and 2029, but from 2030, they will have their own championship structure. The new Marathon Championships will be held annually, with men and women competing in alternating years.
