EU tells TikTok to fix ‘harmful’ For You feed, threatens fines

The European Commission says TikTok is breaching the Digital Services Act by recommending videos similar to those users have watched or liked, including potentially triggering content. Brussels says the system can trap users in “rabbit holes” of material about sadness, isolation and body image, threatening users’ well-being, including that of minors. TikTok rejects the preliminary findings as inaccurate and says it is committed to user safety, while the EU considers its existing changes insufficient. The platform could face fines of up to 6 percent, and will have a chance to respond before the Commission makes its final decision.
