Leon Schuster defends Mama Jack and says he wants to unite South Africans

Leon Schuster says his films and pranks are intended to bring South Africans together through humour, despite criticism of racial portrayals and stereotypes in some of his work. In an interview with SABC presenter Leanne Manas, he defended playing Mama Jack, a Black woman, saying the character drew on his observations of domestic workers and their daily lives. He recalled learning from his domestic worker, Sarah, and walking through Cape Town dressed as Mama Jack to see how people reacted. The 75-year-old entertainer says he has no plans to stop making pranks or films and hopes to be remembered for contributing to nation-building.
