Yemen: Fighting intensifies around Taiz, Aden goes on high alert

Fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces has intensified around Taiz, resulting in at least 80 deaths in 24 hours, according to AFP. In Aden, the government’s seat, security has been heightened as Houthi advances push towards the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The clashes, mainly on heights overlooking recently captured coastal areas, have resulted in 55 Houthi fighters and 26 soldiers killed, totaling at least 81 casualties. Supported by Iran, the Houthis have expanded control over much of the Red Sea coast and are nearing the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, destroying infrastructure such as a bridge linking government-controlled sectors.
