Yopougon: Baoulé Community Installs New Central Chief for Abidjan District

Nanan Konan N'Guessan Bernard was officially installed as central chief of the Baoulé community in Abidjan District on November 7, 2026, at Yopougon's Place de l'Indépendance. The community had been without a customary leader since the previous chief died in 2017; the installation followed several years of consultations and consensus-building. More than 10,000 people attended the ceremony, held under the high patronage of Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé and the patronage of Vice Prime Minister Téné Birahima Ouattara. The prime minister urged the new chief to serve all Baoulé people, preserve social cohesion and listen to everyone.
