Young women’s Jasho app seeks to transform informal work

Four young Kenyan women have developed the fintech app Jasho to assist informal sector workers, who are often overlooked by financial institutions. The idea was conceived at the 2025 Absa GirlCodeHack, where they created a functioning prototype in 30 hours. They are currently testing the app with a user cohort in Nairobi, focusing on building trust before enabling transaction features. Their business model will include transaction fees and partnerships with savings cooperatives.
