Youssou Ndour: In 1981, the Break with Étoile de Dakar

In November 1981, 22-year-old Youssou Ndour left the band Étoile de Dakar, citing discipline issues with fellow musician El Hadj Faye. He formed his own band with musicians such as Assane Thiam, Mbaye Dièye Faye, and Jimi Mbaye, releasing the album « Tabaski-Ndakarou » shortly after. By 1982, the band was renamed Super Étoile de Dakar and quickly gained prominence in Senegalese music.
