No Cross River contractor has the financial capacity to execute NDDC projects, Duke says

Orok Otu Duke, Cross River State’s representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, said the financial requirements and strict procedures for commission contracts exceed the capacity of most local contractors. He spoke in Calabar while unveiling five books on subjects including history, politics and the Nigerian Civil War. Duke said only one or two people in Delta State had recently secured and independently completed such contracts, while high contract sums and qualification requirements were barriers for contractors in Cross River. He urged prospective contractors to strengthen their financial and technical capacity to compete for NDDC projects.

AXIAN, Benin’s Deposits and Consignments Fund, IFC and Proparco signed €30 million in financing agreements for the IPP50 solar project, announced in Cotonou on October 29, 2026. Commercial operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2028; the plants are expected to supply electricity to about 383,000 people and prevent nearly 62,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Benin’s first independent solar power generation project will sell electricity to SBPE under long-term purchase agreements and operate under a 20-year concession.
