Zambia: Opposition Leader in Custody After Contested Presidential Election

In Zambia, Brian Mundubile, the main opponent of re-elected President Hakainde Hichilema, has been placed in custody in a suspected treason investigation. Mundubile turned himself in to the police after being wanted for nearly two weeks. He finished second in the presidential election on August 13, receiving about 38% of the votes. The police also interrogated his running mate, Makebi Zulu, as part of this investigation.
