Indian authorities closed several metro stations and deployed thousands of police officers in Delhi to prevent an opposition march led by Rahul Gandhi protesting the controversial revision of voter lists. Thousands of protesters and supporters of the youth movement CJP were detained during the demonstrations, which the Election Commission of India denies involving any wrongdoing. Opposition figures, including MP John Brittas, condemned the mass detentions as an attack on democratic freedoms. The march was planned to head to the Supreme Court to protest these changes, seen as benefiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP.

Burundi Set to Win Human Rights Council Seat Despite Abuses - UN

Burundi is set to be re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council in a vote on October 12, 2026, with no competition, despite ongoing human rights abuses and lack of meaningful reforms. The regional slates for various groups lack competition, effectively guaranteeing all candidates a seat. Human Rights Watch criticizes this uncompetitive process, emphasizing that Burundi continues to commit grave abuses such as extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances without accountability. The international community is urged to insist on competitive elections to prevent candidates with poor human rights records from securing seats.
