Zamfara North Senate Race: Shinkafi Urges INEC to Immediately Withdraw Ya’u

APC chieftain and Zamfara North senatorial aspirant Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has asked INEC to withdraw Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u’s name as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections. On October 20, 2026, the Court of Appeal in Sokoto dismissed Ya’u’s appeal and upheld a Federal High Court ruling that nullified the APC primary and ordered a fresh contest involving all cleared aspirants. Shinkafi says INEC received the court decisions and that continuing to publish Ya’u’s name before a new primary would defy the rulings and electoral procedures. He urged the commission to comply, warning that its handling of the case could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

They asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate an affidavit reportedly explaining why Oladipupo Adebutu was missing from the register submitted before the PDP primary held on May 24, 2026. The politicians said the register, certified by INEC on July 20, should not be amended retrospectively through an affidavit, and urged the commission to preserve it and investigate any improper interference with its records. They requested a response from INEC within 24 hours of receiving their letter.
