Zimbabweans Marry Batswana to Obtain Citizenship in Gaborone

Botswana’s Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, retired Major General Pius Mokgware, told Ntlo ya Dikgosi that 5,957 foreign nationals had received Botswana citizenship since 2018, including 2,947 Zimbabweans. Zimbabweans and South Africans together account for 4,274 of the citizenship grants, most of which were reportedly obtained through marriage. Botswana also granted citizenship to 1,327 South Africans, 320 Indians, 209 Zambians and 142 Angolans, among other nationalities.
