Irregular migration: 378 people detained in gendarmerie operations in Fatick

Senegal’s National Gendarmerie detained 378 people suspected of attempting irregular emigration in three operations conducted from October 20 to 22, 2026, in the Fatick region. The operations targeted Bassoul and Niodior islands in the Saloum Delta; 102 people were found on an island off Bassoul waiting for a possible departure. Officers seized several pirogues, outboard motors, 5,800 liters of fuel, carts, provisions, and other equipment. Investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances of the attempted departures and identify any networks involved.
