Zulum calls for a coordinated military offensive in the Lake Chad region

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum urged the Nigerian Army to begin Operation Lake Sanity promptly to dislodge insurgents from the shores and islands of Lake Chad. During a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, he called for stronger deployments in Kareto, Baga and the Sabon Gari–Wajiroko axis, and for reinforcing the amphibious command in Baga. Zulum also appealed for the reopening of the Damboa–Biu road and praised the training and deployment of about 1,000 forest guards, along with efforts to resettle communities. He said military operations should be followed by reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement, with support from the Borno State Government.
