U.S.-Iran Talks Raise Hope of Relief After Two Kenya-Bound Fuel Tankers Hit

U.S.-Iran negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz crisis are progressing, raising hopes that oil shipments will resume as Kenya’s reserves remain low. Two tankers carrying petroleum products to Mombasa were hit by drones, Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director General Edward Mwirigi Kinyua told a National Assembly committee; their cargo remained safe despite engine damage. “We have secured very significant quantities”: Macron obtains 200,000 tonnes of diesel in the Gulf

Emmanuel Macron announced that he had secured an additional 200,000 tonnes of diesel during his Gulf tour, with commitments for about 100,000 tonnes per month from the United Arab Emirates and the same amount from Bahrain. Including 95,000 tonnes secured from Saudi Arabia for October and November, France now has commitments for 295,000 tonnes—just over 10% of its consumption and about 30% of its monthly refined-product imports. Kuwait also pledged to deliver diesel and kerosene to Mayotte and Réunion via Oman, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has been disrupted by the conflict between the United States and Iran. Paris hopes the supplies will ease a strained market and bring down prices, though their impact has yet to be determined.
