US slaps sanctions on Iran airlines, service providers

The United States imposed sanctions on all remaining Iranian airlines on Tuesday, targeting 36 entities supporting Iran's aviation sector used for transporting weapons and illicit cargo. This includes 27 Iranian airlines and firms based in countries like the UAE and Turkey. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the aim is to financially choke the Iranian regime, warning that those doing business with these airlines risk being cut off from the global financial system.
