Spain: Diplomatic tensions over the return of Senegalese migrants

Castile and León vice-president Carlos Pollán is due to meet Senegal’s ambassador to Spain, Ibrahim Al Khalil Seck, to discuss the return of unaccompanied minors. The meeting follows the coalition agreement between the People’s Party and Vox, which calls for their return to their countries of origin. Pollán proposes tying some development aid to cooperation on migrant returns and withholding regional development aid from countries that refuse to cooperate. In early September, 82 Senegalese nationals who arrived on El Hierro were released after reaching the 60-day legal detention limit, as authorities had been unable to carry out their deportations.
